How stinkin’ cute are these low heel “Beverly” pumps by Tory Burch? I don’t know what I like more: the stripes, the mustard hue, the bows, or the shape of the overall shoe. Actually, most of all I think I like the fact that one of my personal favorite fashion bloggers posted this to Tory Burch’s Facebook page (thanks Atlantic-Pacific!)

So cute. So stylish. So springy. Get ready.

It’s the perfect time of year to start thinking about spring trends. After all, we’re at the tail end of winter and March will be here before you know it. This is the perfect time to set aside a date to engage in some spring cleaning and start thinking in “nice weather mode” when shopping for clothes and accessories. I know it’s tempting to still want to purchase that adorable sweater or those Steve Madden boots you’ve been eying over and over again, but your realist self needs to remember that you have tons of that stuff in your closet now and by next winter, the trend may have taken a completely different turn. Invest your money (and time) in buying pieces here and there that are spring suitable until you have a collection worth drooling over (and one in which the possibilities can be endless!) Need some help with what to buy? With the help of my research and the forecasts that I stumbled upon from some serious sources such as Harper’s Bazaar and Glamour.com, I want to share with you the styles and trends that you should keep a lookout for in the upcoming months.

While poking around Bloomingdale’s earlier today and making a mental wish list of all the fabulous RTW pieces that I want to be hanging in my very own closet, I couldn’t help but linger around the Tory Burch section due in part to its bright, attractive colors and fresh ensembles that were prominently on display. Moreover, I fell in love about three different times with her cardigans and tweed jackets. In particular, I love this little French jacket. It has the appeal of a jacket but the lightness and fit of a cardigan. I especially appreciate the detail of the outline of the jacket, the buttons, and the flap pockets. It’s dressy and chic and screams Tory Burch. J’adore.

Don’t be mad at me for rubbing super cute spring shoes in your face while we’re just on the cusp of boot season, but I can’t help but revel in these genius styles. From Derek Lam to Marc Jacobs to Proenza Schouler and Victoria Beckham, these designers came up with looks that are crazy and imaginative. For spring I’m used to pastel hues and fresh and simple looks; with these, however, everything is very bold, rich in color, and make a strong statement. In the words of Christian Dior,

“You can never take too much care over the choice of your shoes. Too many women think that they are unimportant, but the real proof of an elegant woman is what is on her feet.”

As Glamour.com article writer, Meghan Gustashaw, insists, you should have 10 staple types of shoes in your closet so that you can pretty much be ready for any situation that emerges unexpectedly. Although I agree with her well-stocked list, I sometimes think about the fact that you can never truly get by with only ten pairs of necessary shoes. If you quadruple that number and then double it, then maybe we’ll be in some form of business. We all know that the most essential of all is the basic black pump. Although this is true,

wouldn’t you think that it’s also just as necessary to have a basic black platform, stiletto, pointed-toe, peep-toe, rounded-toe, and in matte leather, patent leather, suede, and even reptile leather, just for kicks? A basic black heel is a fundamental to any fashionable wardrobe, yes, but think about just how broad that is and how different occasions call for different types of “basic black heels”. Makes a bit of sense, right? I suppose if you aren’t quite the analytical thinker like I am then you wouldn’t have journeyed on ten different paths about what it means to have a basic black heel. If you’re not, consider yourself lucky. More options means tougher decisions. Maybe Meghan was smart in deriving such a concise and straightforward list of essential shoes that every girl should have. Well, here it goes:

    1. Nude peep-toe pumps
    2. Black city boots (either flat or with a small heel)
    3. Ballet flats
    4. Wooden platform sandals
    5. Canvas sneakers
    6. Black pumps
    7. Metallic sandals
    8. Suede booties
    9. Flat, leather sandals
    10. Gorgeous and gleeful “work-of-art” shoes
If you lack more than half of the listed shoe options in your very own closet, then take a little extra money and give yourself an excuse to get shoe shopping!
