Long story short, I’m sorry to say it but I absolutely have a vendetta against anyone who thinks it’s okay to perfectly match the color, texture, or pattern of every aspect of their outfit. Newsflash, it doesn’t look well put together and quite frankly, you don’t look like you know what you’re doing. The rationalization is usually that if you match perfectly from head to toe, it’s a safe bet and you can’t be criticized. Well I’m here to tell you that the match-making days are over.

Or so I thought…

Although I would never, ever encourage a stripe overload or chevron mania from the neck down or even worse, accessories in every form in the exact same shade, I must say that some very delicate overt matching might not hurt. In this instance, I’m referring to these amazing blazer-shorts duos. In theory, the striped jacket with the striped shorts would make eyes roll, but when you actually see it done for yourself, it’s actually pretty adorable and stylish. Same goes for the ultra white blazer with exact matching high-waisted shorts. Does this mean I’m changing my mind about the concept of over-matching? No way! Always on the lookout for new trends, I couldn’t help but fall in love with and want to share the trendy scalloped hemline that I’ve been seeing more and more lately. Since I can appreciate a clean, folded up, finished hem and I tend to not be a big fan of unfinished hems, I don’t feel as though there are many options when wanting to get creative and be different. As you probably already know, I love stylish, dressy shorts and usually run in the other direction of denim shorts. Therefore, when I started seeing dressy shorts with scalloped hems, I knew my prayers had been answered. Not only have I been seeing the unique hemline on shorts, but also on tops and skirts as well. This simple detail automatically adds a very delicate and feminine touch to any garment. And what the hell, who says the bottom hem of the shorts is the only place capable of this hemline trend? Tucking in a blousy top is the ideal way to show off an adorable scalloped waistline.

Don’t let the haze and heat of summer cloud your style; I know it’s sometimes difficult to muster up the energy to create cute looks with minimal clothing options when it’s hot outside and you want to be able to throw something on and be done. That’s what maxi and sundresses are for, but they’re not everyone’s cup of tea. If you can’t fathom wearing anything but a camisole and shorts on a day where the temperature is in the triple digits, then make it fun and take minor steps to add some style to a rather cliche and plain summer ensemble. Throw on a babydoll top with some shorts and ballerina flats. Add chunky accessories, big sunglasses, and a messy side braid and you’re good to go with hardly an ounce of effort. Or, tuck your camisole into your shorts, add a chunky belt with a big buckle in the front, tie a chiffon scarf around your neck, and complete the look with a chic bun and jewel encrusted sandals and, voila! As always in fashion adding accessories or tying, tucking, or cuffing certain parts of your outfit can make all the difference when working with a very simple, carefree foundation.
