Never in a million years would I think a “denim on denim” trend would be something to pick up momentum and completely blow up on the fashion scene. Once a fashion faux pas, the popular concept of layering on all different washes and styles of denim clothing is now a big hit for the fall. It’s one of those style trends that you can’t really fathom being appealing (or copacetic in the world of fashion, for that matter) until you witness it for yourself. I mean come on, wasn’t it once an axiom to know that wearing denim from head to toe was just shameful on so many levels? Hence the somewhat derogatory terms “Canadian tuxedo” and “denim sandwich”. Most wouldn’t be caught dead reveling in that fashion error; but low and behold, some how and some way the “double denim” trend has broken new ground and is not, admittedly, all that horrible.

In fact, I actually like the look of it, when done correctly of course. Gone are the days of outdated oversized denim jackets paired with your too old Levi’s; now, become acquainted with more fitted and tapered styles of both denim pants as well as cropped jackets and simple denim-resembling tops. Layering and mixing different styles and lighter and darker washes of all these denim pieces make for a nice day outfit for the fall. Still don’t believe me? Check it out for yourself with these denim-on-denim looks by Guess. I’m sure you’ll soon be as convinced as I am.

In 1981, the inception of one of the most well-known and respected brands of fashion came to be: Guess. Today they are celebrating 30 years of stylish and sexy success and in honor of that, select stores across the country are engaging in 30th anniversary parties complete with catering, live DJs, giveaways, and rewards to customers. However, the best part about this anniversary celebration lies within the exclusive, limited edition 30th Anniversary Collection that was brought back specifically for this special time. Original patterns, designs, and fits of some of Guess’ famed original clothing is being sold once again in their original fabrics and the three decade old styles couldn’t be more amazing.

Hence the checkered, cropped pants that I cannot stop obsessing about even if I tried! The same adorable pattern trickles over into a cropped, button-down top. And yes, who can forget those ultra retro daisy pants? Throw in some original tees, a leopard top, and a bustiere that looks like it was made for Claudia Schiffer and Claudia Schiffer only, and you have some of the incredible collection to commemorate “30 sexy years” for Guess.

The bandeau is picking up some speed this season. It’s popular not only as a bikini top style, but also as a shirt in and of itself. It’s cute to wear with a casual blazer, jacket, or layer piece over it and also with something a little higher waisted (we’re not quite back to the days of the complete bare midriff like Britney Spears used to rock). I’ve also seen it being used as a substitute for a camisole underneath something a little more sheer. Be careful how you wear it, but when you do wear it, do so with confidence! I would advise to hold off until the warmer weather rolls around (they give off a better statement in the summer). I absolutely love this bowed bandeau that I saw online. It’s so adorable! Mixing it with the orange hues just paints a picture of summer in which I want to just lay in the sun and snack on a creamsicle. This particular bandeau is very cute and I needed to share it. Try finding different bandeau styles at places like Guess or Forever21.

Melesse Peep-Toe Pump; Guess.com; $110

Although Guess is now the fashion brand for both classic and contemporary looks, they can be best known for the classic look of their famous black and white advertisements. Speaking of black and white and classic, the same can be said about this pair of Melesse Peep-Toe Pumps by Guess. I wanted to share this because classic looks and safe colors can always find ways to reinvent themselves to become unique, cute, and stylish. If bright colors and hue mixing scares you, this shoe is a perfect example of the classic black and white combo in a Maryjane-inspired 5-inch pump. The T-strap and peep-toe put a sexy twist on these cute shoes. They would be paired really well with leggings or a trumpet or flared skirt.
