Take a minute to revel in this look of the day. I’m not going to lie, I don’t even know who designs this dress. It’s something I came across on a website and the original publisher of this picture never credited where it’s from or who makes it. We’ll refer to it as the anonymous piece and call it a day because it’s just so dainty and beautiful that it doesn’t really even matter. It’s one of those pieces that you would love to own for the sake of having but if you don’t own it, you’re just as happy gazing at it instead. It’s a beautiful black dress whose monotone is broken up perfectly by an adorable satin pink salmon belt at the waist. Could it get any more perfect?

An absolute staple that every girl should have in their closet is the simple black dress. You never know when an unexpected cocktail party or wedding or night out will be sprung on you so you need to be prepared. The black dress and black heels are essentials that go hand-in-hand. However, many people opt for too simple of a black dress and buy something whose quality is sub-par. I get it, it’s difficult to justify spending $120 on a black dress when you could use that money for a pair of shoes, a few tops, and a great chunky necklace. Many don’t realize the versatility that a black dress has, though. The dress can be worn for more casual reasons, believe it or not. Here are four ways to utilize your black dress aside from its traditional wear:

1. Pair it with a leather jacket for an edgy look

2. A long cardigan or slouchy sweater that buttons down the front with ballerina flats for a sweet and casual look

3. Paired with sheer tights and a black, navy, or beige blazer and suede platforms for a look suitable for work or play

4. Solo with simple jewelry and some strappy heels for a polished, dressed-up look

You’d be surprised at how many uses you can get out of most pieces in your wardrobe if you just use a little imagination ;).
