Never in a million years would I think a “denim on denim” trend would be something to pick up momentum and completely blow up on the fashion scene. Once a fashion faux pas, the popular concept of layering on all different washes and styles of denim clothing is now a big hit for the fall. It’s one of those style trends that you can’t really fathom being appealing (or copacetic in the world of fashion, for that matter) until you witness it for yourself. I mean come on, wasn’t it once an axiom to know that wearing denim from head to toe was just shameful on so many levels? Hence the somewhat derogatory terms “Canadian tuxedo” and “denim sandwich”. Most wouldn’t be caught dead reveling in that fashion error; but low and behold, some how and some way the “double denim” trend has broken new ground and is not, admittedly, all that horrible.
In fact, I actually like the look of it, when done correctly of course. Gone are the days of outdated oversized denim jackets paired with your too old Levi’s; now, become acquainted with more fitted and tapered styles of both denim pants as well as cropped jackets and simple denim-resembling tops. Layering and mixing different styles and lighter and darker washes of all these denim pieces make for a nice day outfit for the fall. Still don’t believe me?
